INDUSTRY EVENT

The Schoolwear Show2017 review The annual Schoolwear Show took place from 15-17 October in Solihull. Images visited on the first day to study the latest product launches and market trends

Julian Wright, sales director at Amaya Sales UK, was demonstrating the new Fast Clamp Pro for Melco embroidery machines. Billed as ‘the answer for hard-to-hoop items’, the clamp has two arms that can be adjusted for height and width, making it ideal for holding shoes, bags, hats and even dog collars. There are three sets available – short, medium and long – and they’ll be available in the UK from February. Julian also reported that the hugely successful Forever Transfer papers are the company’s biggest growth area at present. www.amayauk.com It was YES’s first time at the Schoolwear Show, explained technician Wayne Marriott, and the company was demonstrating the Print Wizard Ghost Transfer Systems. The kit includes starter toners (CMYK + white), a box of papers and training. The transfers can be used on both light and dark garments on a Ghost HP printer, and there is no need for weeding. As for the new direct-to-garment printer from YES, the M8, it’s now anticipated this will be arriving at YES in early 2018. www.yesltd.co.uk The big news on TheMagicTouch’s (TMT) stand was the new, compact, pink (very pink) Hobstar heat transfer press. The clam- style A4 press is available for a budget-busting £250, reports managing director Jim Nicol, making it ideal for those who are setting up to supply decorated garments as a secondary source of income, an area of the market that Jim says is growing quickly. www.themagictouch.co.uk Barry Chaytow, managing director of Tie & Scarf Company, took a sample hijab to the Schoolwear Show this year. He reported that customers have been asking for hijabs over the past 12 months, and the company was keen to show the possibilities available, such as hijabs in different colours, with school badges, braiding and so on. www.tieandscarf.co.uk Over at the Result Clothing stand, brand ambassador Gary Layzell was keen to show the two new colours being added to the popular Junior/Youth Padded Jacket (R233J-Y) for 2018: black and navy. The design team took inspiration from the latest fashion trends when designing this jacket, resulting in a trendy, smart style that will appeal to children and their parents. Word is that there will be a big launch from the company in January (“a game- changer”) – we’ll let you know as soon as we have the details. www.resultclothing.com Banner was a busy stand: CEO Glenn Leach (pictured), just five weeks into his new role, was meeting a steady stream of customers eager both to talk to him and to see the company’s new Banner branding. Also taking centre stage were new styles, including the Signature Collection, a range of suits for girls and boys made from the durable Ziggy’s fabric; contemporary Vortex Jacket with internal fleece; modern Aptus Swacket; lightweight Aptus Football Shorts with mesh panel; and Aptus Rugby Shorts and Rugby Shirt, in an embossed, durable, stretch fabric. “Banner’s mission is about making children look and feel good,” explained Glenn. Another highlight of the Banner stand was the embroidery placement demonstrated on the various garments. Banner’s sales and development manager, Judith Haig, explained that lapel embroidery is becoming more requested, offering a stylish alternative to the left chest pocket. www.banner.co.uk
